What is an architrave?

Architrave is the decorative wood moulding which sits around the frame or surround of a doorway, window or attic hatch. Architrave has the ability to unify the aesthetic of a room and in particular its woodwork, enhancing the style and decoration of a room and giving it a finished, streamlined appearance. Alongside its decorative functionality, architrave can also hide any unsightly gaps between doors or window frames and the walls. As stockists of premium wood products brand Trojan, at Clarke’s of Bailieborough we stock Trojan architraves, the perfect match for Trojan skirting boards, beading and floor trims. Discover pre-finished architrave in Loft Oak, Natural Oak, Rustic Oak and White Oak wood effects or opt for a classic, crisp white in a choice of two design profiles. Trojan architrave is sold in 2.2 meter lengths.

No longer just used as door surrounds, lengths of architraves have become the DIY-er’s go-to product for creating elegant panelling reminiscent of period stately homes. With a bit of ingenuity and imagination, architrave can be transformed from its original incarnation as a door surround into a highly decorative feature, lending a new lease of life to a room.

Whether you’re using architrave traditionally or more creatively, it’s amazing how it can truly add the finishing touch to any room.
